“Without wine, there’s no more love – or any other pleasure left for men.”
Euripide (The Bacchae)
The land that is home to Resta’s vineyards has been dedicated to the production of quality wines for centu-ries. An inscription from the monastery’s wine cellar in 1573 bears witness, citing the “bono vino”, or good wine made in this very place.
We prefer to use only our own grapes, grown in the vineyard that slopes down Resta’s hilltop and from another proprietary vineyard in Montalcino. We grow only Sangiovese Grosso, the varietal that has distinguished wine making in this region for decades.
We feel a deep responsibility as producers, and have chosen to continue an enduring tradition, with respect for the earth and that which it produces. Our mission is the pursuit of quality.
MARTIN DEL NERO
ORCIA • D.O.C.
Martin del Nero is produced at Fattoria Resta, a few kilometers from the quaint Tuscan town of Buonconvento. The wine takes its name from the author of a 16th century inscription chiseled into the brick of the farm’s wine cellar.
ROSSO DI MONTALCINO
Our Rosso di Montalcino has an intense and concentrated aroma, with mature fruit and a full, complex mouth feel. The consistent and graceful structure finds harmony with the noble tannins of our local Sangiovese grapes.
Thanks to research into the history of the farm, we discovered that Guasparino was the name of Martin del Nero’s father. This wine was created for the first time in 2014, a year when Martin del Nero was not produced.
